Obstetrics

Medical care from conception through the postpartum period

Pregnancy is not an illness. It is a physiological condition that requires careful medical attention, consistent support at every appointment, and the assurance of comprehensive medical facilities on the day of delivery. With over 10,000 deliveries under my belt, I am committed to ensuring these three conditions are met for every patient.

Your Pregnancy Journey

Childbirth at the Clinique des Grangettes

The Clinique des Grangettes (Hirslanden Group), located in Chêne-Bougeries, is one of the most comprehensive private obstetric facilities in French-speaking Switzerland. The maternity ward features private delivery rooms, a dedicated obstetric operating room, a neonatal unit for the care of newborns, and a team of anesthesiologists specializing in obstetrics available 24 hours a day.

As the attending physician in the maternity ward, I help coordinate the department’s medical care and develop clinical protocols. This role allows me to support you not only during your appointments but also to provide seamless care on the day of your delivery.

Our preferred approach is to support a natural childbirth whenever conditions allow, while strictly adhering to your birth plan. When medical intervention is necessary (induction, instrumental delivery, cesarean section), it is explained, justified, and performed with the same technical rigor.

Obstetric practices

Vaginal delivery

Cephalic presentation, continuous monitoring of fetal heart rate in accordance with the 2015 FIGO guidelines (2021 update), pain management (epidural, alternative analgesia), active labor support.

Systematic assessment of eligibility for vaginal delivery based on the criteria of the Term Breech Trial and European guidelines. Routine use of specific obstetric maneuvers. Personalized discussion of the mode of delivery.

Close monitoring in accordance with ISUOG recommendations. Assessment of chorionicity, monitoring for specific risks (transfusion syndrome, discordant fetal growth). Vaginal delivery is possible depending on obstetric conditions.

Vaginal delivery after cesarean section (Trial of Labor After Cesarean) is possible in most cases, provided that an individualized assessment is conducted and a strict monitoring protocol is followed. I published a literature review on this topic in 2022 (Rev Med Suisse).

Performed in accordance with current guidelines, using a standardized technique and the Enhanced Recovery After Cesarean (ERAC) protocol. The department’s policy aligns with the Robson classification, an international gold standard methodology recommended by the World Health Organization for evaluating cesarean section practices.

Dating, morphological, and growth ultrasounds performed in the office. Intrapartum ultrasound for assessing the mechanical progression of labor (asynclitism, fetal position), a topic on which I co-authored a paper published in the *International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics* in 2023.

True medical continuity

In my view, continuity of care is one of the cornerstones of obstetric safety. I am personally committed to providing care throughout your pregnancy, to being present or immediately available at the time of delivery, and to ensuring your postnatal care. In the event of my unexpected unavailability, my colleagues at the practice—who are also physicians at the Clinique des Grangettes—will take over, adhering to the same standard of care.

International patients

The practice regularly treats international patients, particularly those undergoing cross-border assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments (IVF in Spain, Belgium, Greece, and Cyprus). Consultations are available in French, English, Arabic, and Hebrew. Administrative support is provided for insurance and hospitalization arrangements at the Clinique des Grangettes.

Are you expecting to receive care for a high-risk pregnancy?

Pregnancies involving a medical complication, a history of serious obstetric complications, or a maternal or fetal risk factor fall under the scope of maternal-fetal medicine.
